An assessment of Brazil\u2019s Sustainable Taxonomy from a gender perspective"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">This paper inves\u00adti\u00adga\u00adtes the chal\u00adlen\u00adges of adop\u00adting the <i>sus\u00adtai\u00adna\u00adbi\u00adlity appro\u00ada\u00adch <\/i>\u2013 whi\u00adch addres\u00adses envi\u00adron\u00admen\u00adtal and soci\u00adal objec\u00adti\u00adves together \u2013 in the design of public taxo\u00adno\u00admi\u00ades as ins\u00adtru\u00adments of cli\u00adma\u00adte policy. Using the Sus\u00adtai\u00adna\u00adble Taxo\u00adnomy of Bra\u00adzil (STB) as a case study and focu\u00adsing on its key soci\u00ado\u00ade\u00adco\u00adno\u00admic objec\u00adti\u00adve \u2013 redu\u00adcing gen\u00adder and race ine\u00adqua\u00adli\u00adti\u00ades \u2013 it empha\u00adsi\u00adzes risks other than gre\u00adenwashing and par\u00adti\u00adcu\u00adlarly rela\u00adted to labor mar\u00adket indi\u00adca\u00adtors and per\u00adme\u00ada\u00adted by a gen\u00adder (and raci\u00adal) pers\u00adpec\u00adti\u00adve. From exis\u00adting taxo\u00adno\u00admi\u00ades, we iden\u00adtify three risks of the <i>sus\u00adtai\u00adna\u00adbi\u00adlity appro\u00ada\u00adch<\/i>: the win\u00adner-takes-all effect, soci\u00adal-washing, and struc\u00adtu\u00adral incom\u00adpa\u00adti\u00adbi\u00adlity. Then, we con\u00adduct a two-step empi\u00adri\u00adcal analy\u00adsis, com\u00adbi\u00adning a macro-over\u00advi\u00adew of Brazil\u2019s pro\u00adduc\u00adti\u00adve, occu\u00adpa\u00adti\u00ado\u00adnal, and emis\u00adsi\u00adon struc\u00adtu\u00adres with a micro\u00adda\u00adta analy\u00adsis of STB-eli\u00adgi\u00adble sec\u00adtors focu\u00adsed on key gen\u00adder (and raci\u00adal) ine\u00adqua\u00adlity indi\u00adca\u00adtors. Our fin\u00addings reve\u00adal a core con\u00adtra\u00addic\u00adti\u00adon: the sec\u00adtors most cri\u00adti\u00adcal for emis\u00adsi\u00adon reduc\u00adti\u00adon in Bra\u00adzil (such as agri\u00adcul\u00adtu\u00adre and lives\u00adtock) fea\u00adtu\u00adre rela\u00adti\u00advely small, pre\u00addo\u00admi\u00adnan\u00adtly male-domi\u00adna\u00adted, and low-paying jobs. On top of that, a dis\u00adcus\u00adsi\u00adon of the STB\u2019s Gen\u00adder and Raci\u00adal Equity Index (GREI) demons\u00adtra\u00adtes that struc\u00adtu\u00adral gen\u00adder ine\u00adqua\u00adlity and fema\u00adle under\u00adre\u00adpre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon ope\u00adra\u00adte inde\u00adpen\u00adden\u00adtly of other ine\u00adqua\u00adlity indi\u00adca\u00adtors and requi\u00adre spe\u00adci\u00adfic analy\u00adsis and tar\u00adge\u00adted poli\u00adci\u00ades. We con\u00adclu\u00adde that although the STB iden\u00adti\u00adfi\u00ades both key emit\u00adting sec\u00adtors and under\u00adre\u00adpre\u00adsen\u00adted acti\u00advi\u00adti\u00ades from a gen\u00adder (and raci\u00adal) pers\u00adpec\u00adti\u00adve, it can\u00adnot ensu\u00adre that risks men\u00adti\u00ado\u00adned abo\u00adve are out of ques\u00adti\u00adon.
